1922 picture of an Igbo woman wearing anklet plates. Picture was taken by Northcote W. Thomas

Ogba anklets were worn by Igbo women permanently as a fashion or maybe musical accessory.
To wear them, they’d stuff rags between the skin and the metal to prevent chafing, while they walk with a curious swing of the leg to avoid rubbing the plates together.

Ogba ankle bracelets made from brass formed part of a woman’s dowry for the Igbos in Nigeria. Worn in pairs and important symbols of status, woman wearing ogba were unable to take on normal domestic duties and increased her own social status and that of her husband and father.” The reason why this was fashionable then remains a mystery to us.

DIARY OF AN ENGINEERING STUDENT📒- King Maduka

Chapter one:

THE EARLY STAGE.🌱

“Yea! I got in finally, after 2years of waiting ”, He was so happy and couldn’t hold his joy. The neighbors wondered what was really going on, but no one knew. This same sound of happiness happened in almost all houses when an aspirant finally gets admitted into his/her desired university.

In my case, I am about leaving home in few months to study mechanical engineering in a prestigious public university. My friends that also got admitted in various engineering departments came visiting me, so we shared from each others joy. One got admitted to study petroleum engineering, while the other to study chemical engineering.

While sharing from each others joy, we shared ideas and made goals, we made bucket list of things wanting to achieve during our 5 years of study. In my bucket list were so many things outside the academic settings, thinking that once i’m out from home i am so following my passion and still representing good in school activities also, but how i wish i knew, it was a different ball game.
